SEXUAL FUNCTION PROTOCOL

***If you are taking Viagra (sildenafil) or Cialis (tadalafil), I recommend you proceed with caution if combining L-arginine with them.  There is a potential to lower blood pressure, but there has also been evidence that combination therapy is safe and effective.  Start with low doses and advance gradually. ***

There are many products on the market making claims that simply have not been adequately studied for safety & effectiveness.  The products below have the best data.

L-arginineis the precursor to nitric oxide, which dilates blood vessels to improve blood flow.   L – arginine has been shown to improve erectile dysfunction after 6 weeks of 5 grams/day of supplementation.  I do not recommend it for men with a history of heart attack-as one study did show a slight increase in death rate. ​​

Red (Asian) Ginseng In a double blind placebo controlled trial, two thirds of the men taking 3 grams/day of ginseng showed improvement in erectile dysfunction. In a small double blind placebo controlled trial, sexual arousal significantly improved in menopausal women taking 3 grams/day of asian ginseng.

***Use under medical supervision if you are taking medications for diabetes as there have been reports of ginseng modestly lowering blood sugar. ***

DHEA 50 mg/day has been shown to have a modest impact on mood, sexual function and more effective in raising testosterone in women than older men (modest increases noted in older men).
